Turkey’s first LEED project!

Unilever Turkey Green Office, which is structured with a sustainable environmental approach in the framework of social responsibility, has been awarded with the first LEED certification in Turkey. Unilever’s green office, has the LEED Silver certificate.

Green Features:

  • Use special luminaires called “full cut off” to prevent atmospheric light pollution and increase energy saving.
  • Selection of gases of mechanical equipment from gases which are not harmful to ozone.
  • Energy Saving by selecting both electrical and mechanical systems in the office space from the appropriate equipment.
  • Use of water-saving luminaires and water-free urinals.
  • Reduce lighting intensity by up to 20% using efficient lighting fixtures and lamps.
  • The collection of rain water, use in toilets and garden irrigation, thus reducing the use of network water.
  • Selection of plants that consume little water in landscaping studies and the use of rainwater will not require water for irrigation after 2 years.
  • Energy saving with glow sensors and gradual lighting.
  • Increase indoor quality with 100% fresh air and heat recovery air handling units.
  • Increasing the indoor air quality by providing fresh air above 30% of the values specified in the ASHRAE standards (In this application, energy efficient systems are selected).
  • All equipment in the building can be monitored from the building automation system and intervened immediately by noticing any malfunction or irregularity on this site(to prevent labor and energy loss).
  • Open office demand on the office floors, increasing the efficiency of the staff and increasing the satisfaction of the workplace by positioning all the tables in the sunshine and landscape
  • The use of environmentally friendly construction materials (paint-lining) in which the harmful VOC ratios (volatile organic compound) were low.
  • Heating of the running water thanks to the solar panels on the roof and thus providing the floor for energy saving.
  • Reduced energy costs through the use of Energy Star equipment
  • Improved recycling of all wastes through advanced waste management plan.
  • Reduction of atmospheric CO2 emissions with the use of 20% depleted domestic materials
  • Implementation of planning and management of indoor air quality and internal air quality, testing of all equipment according to ASHRAE and IESNA standards, thus increasing the health and safety of employees.
  • Take various measures in the roof and in the landscape to reduce the heat island effect.

 Unilever Project in Numbers

  • Unilever was completed in 1.5 years in the design, planning and implementation process.
  • Unilever Project is expected to save approximately 35% of lighting energy compared to an ordinary office building.
  • The energy used for HVAC is 35% saving compared to an ordinary office building and will save about 15% according to international standards (ASHRAE).
  • The Unilever building is 40% more insulated than an ordinary building, which is also a big influence on energy saving.
  • Unilever has saved about 41% of the water according to the International Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards.
  • Thanks to energy savings it is expected to save 30% on CO2 emissions.
