Turkcell started off with the slogan ‘’Turkey’s data should remain in Turkey.’’ Thus, it has put the Aegean Region’s first and only Tier III Certified data center into service. Turkcell Izmir Data Center, built in Izmir Menderes, has been awarded a GOLD level certificate in the LEED for New Construction category.

In addition to the approach in which protecting local resources is a priority, approaches that are compatible with the environment and that take care of human health become prominent in Turkcell Izmir Data Center. Turkcell Izmir Data Center has been located in an area with established infrastructure, the building can adapt to the region without harming the environment. Both with the public transport facilities and the public transport facilities provided by Turkcell reduce the use of individual vehicles and, accordingly, carbon emissions.

Within the scope of the project, 45% water saving has been achieved with the use of efficient water fixtures and fittings. Applications have been made to protect water resources in the landscape area. Xerophyte plants have been added to the landscape design as well as local, adapted plants. In addition, rainwater and air conditioning drainage waters have been used in landscape irrigation. In this way, landscape irrigation can be provided without the need for mains water.

Energy efficiency has been given great importance in all service systems used within the scope of the project. The American Energy Efficiency Standard (ASHRAE) requirements have been prioritized by using efficient lighting fixtures, heating, cooling and ventilation systems.

It is aimed to provide indoor occupant comfort conditions and attention has been paid to select construction chemicals such as paint and adhesives in accordance with international indoor air quality standards. Waste management plans have been prepared throughout the operation process starting from the construction phase. Most of the site wastes were collected and recycled. During operation, recyclable wastes from the floors will be collected and sent for recycling.
