The Aviation Maintenance, Repair and Modification Center (HABOM) project, built by THY – Teknik in Sabiha Gökçen Airport, has been awarded LEED certification at Gold level by fulfilling the requirements of LEED criteria in all processes from design process to end user delivery. The facility, which has a closed area of approximately 400.000 m2, has become the biggest building of Turkey’s Green Building Certified.
In the design and construction of the plant, the negative effects of the construction on the environment were minimized. Thanks to the different strategies and technologies used in the project, high energy, water and raw material savings have been achieved compared to standard buildings. Some of these strategies are; Alternative water resources such as rainwater, renewable energy systems and efficient systems have been used. In addition, most materials used in the construction of buildings are preferred over those that are most appropriate for environmental standards. In the construction process, it has been given utmost importance to send out the recovery of wastes, to take preventive measures against dust from ventilation to increase indoor air quality. Again, in order to increase user health and comfort in the interior, the amount of fresh air given to the area has been kept above international standards and chemicals such as paint, adhesive, putty with low VOC value have been used.
