The KORDSA – Composite Technologies Center of Excellence project in Kurtköy, Istanbul was awarded the LEED GOLD certification. Many environmental and human friendly features have been integrated into project design and construction.
With the selection of local and adapted plants, landscape design has been made to provide biodiversity and the amount of green space in the area has been increased. In the landscape design of the building, it is aimed to save at least 50% in the consumption of landscaping water with plants which is suitable for the climate of the region and which consumes less water.
The amount of waste has been reduced through the recycling and reuse of wastes generated during the construction process. In addition, Erosion and Sedimentation Plan was established and monitored to prevent pollution of water resources and dust formation during construction.
By using efficient batteries and reservoirs that consume less water and by using gray water in reservoirs, a 40% saving in water consumption is targeted. To improve interior user health and comfort, low VOC (volatile organic component) materials are used, designed to provide maximum benefit from natural lighting and ventilation.
