The design award-winner ATC Tower (Air Traffic Control Tower) located in Istanbul Airport mastersite, has been awarded a Certified level certification in the LEED v4 Building Design and Construction: New Construction & Major Renovation category.

During the construction process, the amount of waste has been reduced by preventing waste generation with the use of precast facade elements and by ensuring the recycling and reuse of the waste generated. Besides, measures had taken to minimize the negative impact on the environment and nature, and to prevent water and construction pollution during the construction process; an Erosion and Sedimentation Control Plan has been developed. In building materials selection, light-colored coating materials to reduce the heat island effect and materials with Environmental Product Declaration and recycled content had preferred.

In the project, the requirements of the ASHRAE 90.1-2010 Standard were prioritized with the use of energy-efficient mechanical and electrical systems, facade design, and sufficient glass selection. Water efficiency had prioritized within the project scope, low flow water fixtures have been preferred.

For ensuring indoor comfort conditions, the supplied fresh air amount had been set above the ASHRAE 62.1 standard, thermal comfort conditions had been provided, low emitting materials had been preferred, and anti-glare systems had been used in the control floors. To reduce building wastes during the operation period, it is planned that all recyclable wastes will be collected separately and sent to recycling.
