The LEED ND (LEED for Neighborhood Development) system aims to reduce the damage to the environment in urban scale and to improve the quality of life of the people living in these areas. In addition to green building features such as water and energy efficiency, smart growth and planned urbanization strategies are also evaluated.

Piyalepaşa İstanbul Project is located in one of the oldest districts of Istanbul and has mixed-use areas including residential blocks, office blocks, hotel and shopping street. In the project, a compact and walkable design concept has been emphasized to increase the amount of green areas and public spaces.

The natural habitat, wetland-water resources and habitats have not been damaged in the construction process because the project site and surrounding areas have already been developed extensively. In this way, it is aimed to increase the ecological value of the region by increasing the amount of green area and plant diversity.

Heights of buildings, setback distance and width of pavements have been designed to encourge the users to walk and create safe pedestrian paths. The car parking areas have been placed to the basement floors by this way the intersection of pedestrian and vehicle roads is minimized and the open space areas have been increased. The car parking entrance and exit points and service roads have been positioned not to coincide with the entrances of the buildings which is directly connected to the public spaces.

Piyalepaşa Istanbul is located within the walking distance of diverse uses. Also, recreation and sport areas provided in the project area are open both project users and neighbors. Residential typologies in the project have been set to respond both different income groups and different user needs. The residential units have been designed considering with universal design and accessibility criteria and intended to the used by individuals of diffrents age groups and disabilities.

Energy and water efficiency are provided above the international standards in all buildings in the project. Local plants with low water demand and efficient irrigation systems have been preferred in landscape design in this way the water consumption of landsacape have been reduced.
