Göztepe Prof. Dr. Süleyman Yalçın City Hospital, located in the Kadıköy district of Istanbul, has been awarded the Gold certification under the LEED-HC v2009 standard.

The use of light-colored materials on the roof and hardscapes, along with the addition of green spaces, aims to prevent the increase of the heat island effect in the area. Permeable pavement materials and proper water channeling techniques help control surface water flow, preventing potential flooding during rainfall and reducing the load on the city’s infrastructure.
Through the selection of efficient water fixtures and equipment aimed at efficient water usage, the hospital has reduced indoor water consumption by over 40%.
To increase energy efficiency, heating, cooling, and lighting systems are designed in accordance with ASHRAE standards. Additionally, the building’s envelope insulation Performance helps to energy efficiency. Efficiency has been prioritized in the selection of mechanical systems, through the continuous energy monitoring, significant savings in energy costs have been achieved. As a result of all these efforts, a reduction of over 42% in energy consumption has been obtained.
Construction waste is sent to recycling facilities with the goal of protecting resources and recycling it for reuse. Priority is given to the use of recycled and locally sourced materials, materials containing mercury are avoided, and detailed control plans have been created for the management of mercury waste.
In order to improve indoor air quality, the amount of fresh air supplied to the indoor environment has been increased and low-emission materials have been preferred. Special designs have been made to ensure that employees can make the best use of daylight, and the occupant comfort has been increased in patient rooms through personalized thermal comfort, lighting, and shading systems.
